HAGAR - Metropolis Events

When HAGAR contacted us to invite us to be their styling partner for their inaugural annual Gala Dinner our answer was a resounding yes! HAGAR is an incredible organisation that works with women and children who have been trafficked, enslaved or abused in the countries of Cambodia, Vietnam and Afghanistan. They support them with medical care, a safe place to live, counselling, job placement and more. They also help not only women and children but all victims of slavery.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to work along-side a team who do such incredible work.
The Gala took place at the iconic Metropolis Events, an elegant venue that set the tone for the evening ahead. HAGAR’s brief to us was “to make a broken world beautiful”. After undergoing an incredible amount of brainstorming and research spanning in various directions the concept suddenly became crystal clear, it had to be Kintsugi.
Kintsugi (Japanese) means “to repair with gold”; the art of repairing pottery with gold lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.
Kintsugi became the overarching theme for the entire event. Gold elements were incorporated across the media wall, table numbers, menus and even the floral arrangements via a thread of gold streamer amongst a mass of red. The pops of gold were complimented with a bold and powerful colour palette of black and red and blue hues which spanned across feature linen napkins, menu design, candles, vases, media wall, the table centrepieces and more. It was a feast for the eyes!
The finished product was not only bold, beautiful and unique but it articulated the key message that we wanted to speak on the night, which was “to make a broken world beautiful”. This message we further enhanced with an oversized floor decal in the middle of the dance floor.
